A treasure trove of cultural monuments
The Upper Middle Rhine Valley is a true treasure trove for history buffs. Over 40 castles and palaces testify to the importance of the Rhine as a trade route and line of defense. Each castle tells its own story and offers a fascinating insight into life in times gone by.
Wine and the Middle Rhine belong inseparably together and nowhere else do the vineyards of this small but fine wine-growing region spread out so majestically before the eye of the beholder as in the Bopparder Hamm. The vineyards of the Bopparder Hamm dominate the sweeping bend of the Rhine and establish Boppard's reputation as the home of excellent wineries.

Rhine Castles Trail
The cultural landscape through which the Rhine Castles Trail runs is fabulously beautiful. The paths meander over hills and through secluded side valleys in a varied and breathtaking way. Ideal for those hungry for adventure and thirst for knowledge, for those stressed out by their jobs and those longing for a break. The Rhine Castle Trail offers a colorful mix of adventure and contemplation.
The Rhine Castle Trail is around 200 km long and leads through a unique cultural landscape from the Rolandsbogen near Remagen to the Mäuseturm near Bingen. Along the way, you can experience the Rhenish Slate Mountains in many different ways, pass through the Ahr Valley, one of Germany's northernmost wine-growing regions, and admire the world's largest cold-water geyser in Andernach. From here, you go to Koblenz, the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. The Rheinburgenweg accompanies the entire World Heritage Valley and leads hikers to Bingen on the left bank of the Rhine.
Rheinsteig
Hiking at a high level
Between Bonn, Koblenz and Wiesbaden, the 320 km long Rheinsteig leads on the right bank of the Rhine on predominantly narrow paths and challenging climbs up and down to forests, vineyards and spectacular views.
Perfectly signposted and closely networked, it invites you to ambitious long-distance hikes or varied short tours, easily accessible by train, boat and car, and close to several airports. The yellow marked access routes lead every hiker safely to the blue marked main path - planning the stages is therefore very easy.
Left Bank Way of St. James
As a historical pilgrimage route, the Left Bank Way of St. James from Cologne to Bingen is peppered with numerous traces of the cult of St. James in the surrounding towns and communities. The Way of St. James is marked with a yellow scallop shell on a blue background. You will usually find the signposts sprayed onto trees with forestry paint. The PARK HOTEL is located directly on the Way of St. James and offers an ideal starting point for a hike in the beautiful nature of the Middle Rhine.
Two suggested stages:
Rhens - Bad Salzig approx. 16km
Bad Salzig - Oberwesel approx. 26km.
Breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley and the heights of Hunsrück, Eifel, Taunus and Westerwald can be experienced on a hike along the Traumschleife Fünfseenblick. Unique in the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley and also unique for the course of the river from the source to the mouth, the dream loop creates the illusion of a lake landscape with castles, residential areas and vineyards; in short: a unique cultural and natural landscape.
The unique tour, the highlight of which is hiking through the Ehrbachklamm, where you get up close and personal with rock and water and listen to the rushing of the stream, also leads over slope edges and through the silence of the beech forests and enchants with views of the Hunsrück heights. The Ehrbachklamm dream loop was rated 99 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
The starting point for the hike is the tourist information office in the ZAP in Emmelshausen (free parking is plentiful).
The path leads past the Baunhöller Mill along the Liesenfelder and Preisbach streams to the Ehrbach.
Follow the watercourse through the gorge. Behind the gorge, the valley becomes wider, but no less attractive. Look up in awe at Ehrenburg - a detour is worthwhile before you set off on the last few meters to Brodenbach on the Moselle.
From Emmelshausen to Brodenbach it is about 16 km (4-5 hours).
